Last updated 26 August 2026. This policy explains what personal information AV Supply collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013, which is the South African law that governs this.

What we collect

We collect what we need to sell you something and deliver it, and no more.

• Identity and contact. Your name, email address, telephone number, and delivery and billing addresses.
• Order information. What you bought, when, what it cost, and the delivery and returns history attached to it.
• Business details. A company name and VAT number if you give them to us for invoicing. These are optional and you can buy as an individual without them.
• Technical information. IP address, browser and device type, and how you moved through the site. This arrives automatically and is used in aggregate.
• Correspondence. Emails you send us and our replies.

Payment information

We do not see or store your full card number. Card payments are handled by a payment provider that is subject to the card industry security standards, and your card details go to them rather than to us.

We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded or failed, and enough reference to match it to your order. That is all we hold.

Why we use it

• To process, deliver and invoice your order, and to handle returns and warranty claims
• To answer you when you contact us
• To meet legal obligations, including keeping tax and transaction records
• To protect against fraud and to secure the site
• To improve the catalogue and the site, using technical information in aggregate
• To send marketing, but only if you asked for it, and you can stop it at any time

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for anyone else to market to you.

Who we share it with

Only the parties needed to complete what you asked for:

• Couriers, who need your name, address and phone number to deliver
• Our payment provider, who processes the transaction
• Suppliers and manufacturers, where an item ships direct or a warranty claim has to go to them, limited to what that requires
• Service providers who host and support this site, under contract and under confidentiality
• A regulator, court or law enforcement agency where we are legally required to disclose

Some of these providers process information outside South Africa. Where that happens, POPIA requires the receiving party to be subject to comparable protection, and we make that a condition of using them.

How long we keep it

Order and transaction records are kept for as long as tax and company law requires, which in South Africa is generally five years from the end of the relevant tax period.

Marketing consent is kept until you withdraw it. Correspondence is kept while it is useful for supporting you and then deleted. Technical logs are kept for a short period for security.

How we protect it

The site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to order data is restricted to people who need it. Card data never reaches our systems. We keep the platform patched.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, POPIA requires us to notify both you and the Information Regulator, and we will.

Your rights

Under POPIA you may:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you
• Ask us to correct or delete information that is wrong, misleading, or no longer needed
• Object to us processing your information in a particular way
• Withdraw marketing consent at any time
• Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa if you think we have handled your information badly

Email hello@avsupply.co.za to exercise any of these. We will not charge you for a reasonable request and we will respond within the period POPIA allows.

Cookies

This site uses cookies to keep your basket working, keep you signed in, and understand which pages are useful. Blocking cookies in your browser is your call, but the basket and checkout will not work properly without the essential ones.

Other websites

Where we link to a manufacturer or another site, this policy stops at the link. What they do with your information is governed by their policy, not ours.

Children

This is a trade and business catalogue and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top tells you which version is current, and material changes will be flagged on the site.
